Open Farm Sunday

We're being encouraged to visit Northamptonshire's farms

Author: Trevor ThomasPublished 9th Jun 2024

We’re hearing from a Northamptonshire farming business about how the profession is one of the unsung heroes of UK industry.

It’s as a study’s found as many as 94% of us value what farmers do, though only 12% think we’re informed enough about how farming actually works.

Today’s Open Farm Sunday where members of the public can learn more first-hand about it.

Jess Cartwright is from Brixworth Farming Company and says programmes like Clarkson’s Farm play their part in highlighting issues to the general public:

"We see from shows such as that one that it's not just about gorgeous sunsets. It opens our eyes to all manner of problems farmers have to deal with.

"This year has been such a difficult year with the weather. We're about a month behind on where we should be, and this creates an impact when it comes to yield and ultimately financial difficulties.

"It's important we highlight the link between products on sale in the shops and what's grown on our farms.

"Come along and see the lots of farms in Northamptonshire which have publicised that they're open and taking part in the day.
