A 29-year-old man, formerly of Kettering, who subjected his partner to years of abuse has been jailed for four years.
Lewis Edward Arnold Jones left the woman haunted by flashbacks as a result of the physical and mental abuse he inflicted upon her during their relationship – controlling her life, telling her what she could and couldn’t wear, and who she could be friends with.
He also repeatedly belittled and verbally insulted her, controlled her bank cards and regularly checked her phone.
Police say the abuse wasn’t just psychological with the woman having to endure physical assaults as well. On one occasion, Jones stabbed her in the ankle and on another, kicked her down the stairs.
In 2021, she bravely told Northamptonshire Police about what had been happening and an investigation was launched, leading to Jones being charged with one count of Section 20 GBH – wounding with intent, and one count of engaging in controlling or coercive behaviour.
Jones pleaded guilty to both offences on the first day of his trial at Northampton Crown Court at the beginning of October, returning to the same court this week (Tuesday, November 6), where he was sentenced to four years in prison.
In her victim personal statement, which was read out at court, the survivor detailed how Jones’ abuse had left her with feelings of worthlessness and how she struggles day to day with what happened to her at his hands.

“This woman has been exceptionally brave in coming forward and telling police about the years of abuse she endured. We never underestimate how difficult doing this is and I am so pleased that we have managed to jail her abuser as a result.
“People like Lewis Jones rely on silence. They want the person they’re abusing isolated from friends and family. When that silence is broken, they begin to lose their power and as we can see in this case, their victim can break free from them.
“Whilst this woman will never forget what Jones did to her, she now has a much brighter future ahead, and with the help of her support network, I hope she can move forward.
“Tackling violence against women and girls remains a priority for Northamptonshire Police and we will continue doing everything we can to bring offenders to justice.”
