A Northamptonshire roads campaigner says potholes are only going to cause yet more issues for drivers.

It's as the number of pothole related breakdowns for September has hit its highest level in seven years, at over 50,000 incidents.

Earlier this year, a 'Pothole Partnership' which included representation from the AA and British Cycling, called on the Government to deliver on a commitment to fix a million potholes a year.

Known as Mr Pothole, Mark Morrell who's from Brackley and has championed the cause to pressure governments and local authorities for funding, says we're at the time of year when weather conditions are notoriously causing trouble:

"This winter we'll see a massive increase in potholes as the worst of the weather bites with more freezing. Not to mention of course the extra amount of water which has accumulated to make our road surfaces more fragile.

"The Government's pledge to fix and fill an additional one million potholes per year is totally unrealistic anyway. There's currently 11.5 million potholes and defects on the road network across the country."
