A Northamptonshire police officer has been dismissed without notice following a gross misconduct disciplinary hearing.
27 year old Police Constable Peter Dumbarton faced allegations related to a sexual encounter with Person A on 14-15th January 2019. The panel found the allegations were proven and that the officer’s conduct breached the ‘Discreditable Conduct’ Standard of Professional Behaviour.
A gross misconduct disciplinary hearing was held by Northamptonshire Police at Force Headquarters between January 21 and 24, 2025, in relation to Constable PC Peter Dumbarton.
The allegation was one of off duty sexual misconduct in relation to a woman known as 'Miss A'. The officer was aged 21 when the allegation occurred.
Peter Dumbarton was present at the hearing and denied the allegations.
The panel concluded that the breach amounted to gross misconduct. The panel determined that the officer would be dismissed without notice.
Deputy Chief Constable Ash Tuckley, who oversees the Professional Standards Department (PSD) at Northamptonshire Police, said:
“The courage of Miss A in speaking up and engaging with the misconduct investigation is remarkable. I want to assure people that when reports of this nature are received by PSD they will be investigated sensitively and thoroughly.”
“Violence against women and girls will not be tolerated within our organisation. This officer’s conduct can only be seen as wholly discreditable and serves to undermine public confidence in the police.
Whether on or off-duty, police officers must always uphold standards of behaviour and integrity. Rooting out those officers who do not uphold the highest of standards is the right thing to do in order to ensure public confidence and the safety of the public and our wider workforce”
