Northampton stem cell donor on the life he helped to save
Nathan has been on the Anthony Nolan register
Nathan Brown of Northampton has been on the Anthony Nolan register for about 10 years.
Recently, he received a call from them, telling him he was a potential match for a total stranger, and he talks us through what happened:
“When I got the call about being a potential match I was surprised and overwhelmed at first but that soon changed to excitement and anticipation.
“I had a nurse visit my house to take blood to confirm I was a match and then a few weeks following this I was given the injections needed to promote the growth/creation of stem cells.
“Next up was a trip to The London Clinic for the donation. I was hooked up to the machine and over the course of the next 5 hours stem cells and plasma was taken from my blood.
“The whole experience was easy, pain free and I would urge anyone who can to donate and/or sign up as a donor.
“What makes this all worthwhile was finding out that my stem cells were given to a small child somewhere in Europe to hopefully give them a second chance of life.”
