A Northamptonshire police officer would have been sacked for gross misconduct after a hearing found he’d behaved appallingly towards two women

The former officer resigned before the hearing and was granted anonymity.

It was alleged that the officer concerned:

Breached the standards of professional behaviour by failing to treat two individuals with respect and courtesy by violating their dignity and/or creating an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment for them.

It was further alleged that the officer acted in a way which failed to treat members of the public and/or colleagues with respect and courtesy, with their conduct being inappropriate, discriminatory and had the potential to undermine public confidence in the Police Service.

The panel said his including coercive and controlling actions undermined public confidence in the police.

Northamptonshire Police say they are 'committed to delivering a policing service our communities can trust. To achieve this, it is vital that our officers, staff and volunteers uphold the high standards of behaviour expected of everyone who works in policing.'
