A 30-year-old man has been sent to prison after he breached his Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).

Keiran Brodie, previously of Northampton, was convicted in 2011 of causing a child under 16 to watch a sexual act.

He was placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register as a result and issued with a SHPO, meaning that he had to abide by some very strict conditions when he was released from prison.

These requirements included advising police when he opened new bank accounts or created any online accounts or email addresses.

But on April 29 this year, when police officers from Northamptonshire Police’s MOSOVO (Management of Sexual or Violent Offenders) Team visited him without warning, they found email addresses he hadn’t informed them of as well as three bank accounts he hadn’t declared.

Upon further investigation, they also found accounts he had created online with LinkedIn, Snapchat, Quora and Instagram.

Brodie was immediately arrested and charged with breaching his SHPO.

He pleaded guilty to the offence at Northampton Crown Court earlier this month (June 16) and was sentenced to one year and nine months in prison.

PC Will Corlett from the MOSOVO Team said: “Registered sex offenders are managed closely for a reason and we take a zero-tolerance approach to any breaches, no matter how small they think these breaches might be.

“No one gets the benefit of the doubt or a second chance. They are arrested and dealt with robustly with a view to a custodial sentence being handed out.

“I hope this case demonstrates the stringency with which we manage Registered Sex Offenders but also our determination to bring them to justice and make Northamptonshire a safer place for all.”
