A fundraising drive for a volunteer group in Northampton has raised it's goal.

The volunteer group Northampton Guardians set up a Just Giving page to raise funds for body cameras for their team.

It's after they say they've seen a sharp rise in assaults, aggression, and inappropriate behaviour towards them.

The group was set up following the death of India Chipchase in 2016 in the town, and offers help and support to vulnerable people on nights out.

In a post on social media the group said:

"We have thought long and hard about this, and on balance we believe that the cameras will not only act as a deterrent but also help to capture footage should the need arise, helping to keep our team of volunteers safe."

The group managed to raise 89% of their £2500 goal in 24 hours. Since then they've achieved that fundraising target according to donations on their Just Giving page.

Northampton Guardians say the funds will be used to purchase the body worn video cameras, as well as GDPR compliant storage.
