A 26-year-old man has been jailed after leading police on a dangerous high-speed chase across Northamptonshire, reaching speeds of up to 130 miles per hour.

Casey Edwards, of no fixed address, was spotted by Northamptonshire Police’s Roads Policing Team on April 27, driving a silver Mercedes C200 on the A45 near Great Doddington. Officers attempted to stop him, but instead Edwards accelerated away at extreme speed.

During the pursuit, which took place during the early evening, Edwards almost forced a police car off the road at 100mph, drove the wrong way around roundabouts, mounted pavements, and sped through residential streets at 60mph.

The chase came to an end on Rowtree Road in Northampton when Edwards collided with another car, pushing it into a brick wall and causing minor injuries to the occupants. His vehicle then crashed into bollards before coming to rest in a bush. Edwards tried to flee on foot but was quickly arrested.

He later admitted to dangerous driving, failing to stop after a collision, criminal damage, driving without a licence, and driving without insurance.

At Northampton Crown Court last month (July 4), Edwards was sentenced to 26 months in prison and banned from driving for 31 months. He must also take an extended driving test if he wants to drive again in the future.

PC Matthew Bland from the Roads Policing Team said:

“I hope Casey Edwards is aware that his dangerous and reckless use of the roads that day put the lives of innocent people at risk. It was just sheer luck no-one was seriously injured.

“Reducing the number of people who are killed or seriously injured on the county’s roads continues to be a priority for our team, and so I am pleased that the courts have helped to remove another irresponsible and illegal driver from our roads.”

In 2024, 31 people lost their lives and 243 others suffered serious or life-changing injuries in crashes across Northamptonshire.
