Two days of action, including a mobile knife amnesty begin today in South Northamptonshire, a year on from zombie-style knife ban.

The neighbourhood policing team will also host community surgeries today and tomorrow, as part of what the force calls an autumn focus on tackling serious violence.

Today marks a year since the ban on zombie knives, whilst owning a ninja style knife is also now illegal since August 2025.

It comes after earlier this week the force revealed arrests had been made after number of knives and weapons were recovered in Kettering as part of a new operation by police - spanning across 6 months

A zombie knife, a gold-handled machete, a 60 centimetre sword, a dagger and a combat knife were among the items seized on the Highfield estate.

Later and tomorrow South Northamptonshire neighbourhood policing team will be out and about meeting local people to provide crime prevention advice, answer questions and find out what the crime concerns are in the local area.

They’ll also be able to share advice about knife crime prevention and sign post to information and support for anyone who is worried that someone close to them maybe carrying a knife or getting involved in gangs or violence.

Today PSCO Emma Teagles will be visiting a number of villages for a ‘mobile knife amnesty’, offering people a safe and secure, no questions asked, opportunity to dispose of any knives or weapons.

Neighbourhood Policing Inspector, Jonathan Davis-Lyons, is reminding people that it is now illegal to possess certain types of knives.

He said: “Ninja swords, ‘zombie-style’ knives and machetes are all now banned in the UK, making these items illegal to possess. Anyone who still has one of these items is encouraged to hand them in or face the risk of being convicted of knife crime offences.

“Carrying a knife of any type puts you in danger, it does not protect you. In reality very few people do carry knives but if you’re concerned that someone you know may be doing so, then support and advice is available.

“You can speak to your local police officers for advice or visit our website where we have lots of information that may help. You can also call us on 101 for help or 999 in an emergency, or report it anonymously to Crimestoppers.

“My team will be visiting various locations this week to meet with local people, answer your questions, discuss any concerns you have about crime or anti-social behaviour, so if you’re in the area, do pop along and see them.”
