Nine Northamptonshire Police officers suspended in relation to allegations of serious sexual assault
It comes after recommendations following the report into police vetting after the killing of Sarah Everard.
Currently, the Force has 16 officers and two staff members suspended, all of which are linked in some way to ongoing criminal investigations.
Nine relate to allegations of rape or sexual assault, five for harassment, two for domestic violence and two for theft.
The Northamptonshire force say they 'have moved quickly' following the publication on February 29th of the Angiolini Inquiry.
In a statement from Detective Chief Supt Emma James;
“Northamptonshire Police takes any allegations of police-perpetrated crime extremely seriously with investigations carried out by detectives within the Professional Standards Department that oversees any arising misconduct issues across our workforce of more than 2,500 officers and staff."
That examining the police failings that led to the murder of Sarah Everard by serving officer, Wayne Couzens.
That publication in February found police failings over Couzens, who was repeated reported for indecent exposure.
One of the key recommendations was the recognition of failings properly to investigate indecent exposure, now recognized as a potential marker for an escalation in sexual offending.
Detectives are now reviewing all 79 indecent exposure cases reported to Northamptonshire Police within the past 12 months.
None of the police investigations relate to indecent exposure offences.
Detective Chief Supt Emma James; “This will be victim-focused and will attempt to identify any repeat offending or any gaps in our own investigations whether or not they have gone to charge, been filed or are still open.”
