Nine arrests made in connection with Northamptonshire town centre protest
Those arrested are between the ages of 44 & 87 years-old
Nine arrests have been made in connection with a protest in Northampton town centre this afternoon (November 18).
The protest, organised by UK-based activist group - Defend Our Juries, took place on the steps outside the Guildhall in support of Palestine Action.
Earlier this year, the government made Palestine Action a proscribed organisation, meaning it is now a criminal offence under the Terrorism Act 2000 to support it - this includes holding placards with slogans indicating that you support the group.
Those arrested are six men aged 87, 81, 67, 64, 62 and 57, and three women aged 75, 60 and 44.
All have been arrested on suspicion of offences under Section 13 of the Terrorism Act 2000 and remain in police custody at this time.
Chief Inspector Paul Cash said: “Thankfully this operation has been delivered successfully and without any police officers or members of the public getting hurt.”
