Construction on the new East Stand at Sixfields stadium looks set to be completed this Spring.
The Chairman of Northampton Town Kelvin Thomas and the Chief Executive of the GRS Group, John Fisher, have been talking about the East Stand construction project. They say the stand is on schedule to be completed within the target date of the first quarter of this year.
Manager Kevin Nolan also says he's impressed with the quality of the stand and the progress made:
"GRS have done some fantastic work, not just the speed of the build but the quality as well and it is really impressive. We are bang on target for the first quarter this year opening,”
“The build itself is of excellent quality, we all know the structure we inherited wasn't ideal but I think we have done a good job to make a really good stand.
"It is a big build, it has cost a lot of money and as with anything, things are not always perfect. There will be teething issues as we open but overall we are delighted with how things are looking."
Construction partners GRS, also now sponsor the community pitch at Sixfields. The club also say the partnership has extended to a number of local companies who have worked on and supported the build.
Kelvin Thomas said: "We have built a really good relationship with GRS, it is a very open relationship with honesty and we have been supported by local companies and partners,” the Chairman continued.
"We have made a few decisions as we have gone along to improve things that we have spotted, much of it with the long term in mind. I think the fans can see how good the stand looks and once they get in the stand and experience the facilities and enjoy them it will make a big difference.”
The club say one of the biggest positives of the new East Stand is the new raised viewing area for wheelchair supporters, facilities that will be among the best in the country.
"We are really proud of the raised viewing platform for wheelchair supporters,” said Kelvin Thomas. “It will be one of the best platforms, not just in the league but in the country, and that is a huge thing for us."
John Fisher, Chief Executive GRS Group, added "The club was very clear that they wanted the stand delivering to a very high standard and we have worked together on the project to try and deliver that, it was hard to pick something up and it was harder as a re-model than a start from scratch but it has helped that the club has been very clear on what it wanted.
"This is a very high profile project and it has been good to help deliver something for the club and the community that they can be proud of and I think everyone will be very pleased with the outcome when it is finished.
“It is great to see the club invest in this project and not cut corners and when finished it will be a job well done and it is something the club, the fans and the town will be very proud of."
