New cancer centre work starts at Northampton General
It'll honour local female racing driver Diana Russell
We’re hearing more about a new cancer centre to be situated in the grounds of Northampton General Hospital.
The facility named after local racing driver Diana Russell and built through a funding donation from her legacy, will be ran by cancer charity Maggie’s. They offer additional support to those who are diagnosed, along with their families.
Sarah Beard, Business Development Director at Maggie's, tells us more:
"Diana was a local businesswoman, absolutely passionate about Northamptonshire and her roots and wanted to help a significant project in the area. Her family found the project to be a perfect fit given her wishes.
"We're thrilled development is underway, and that we can work with Northampton General to help improve facilities for people who are diagnosed.
"By the end of 2025 we expect Maggie's Northampton will be operational and supporting people with cancer.
"Architect Stephen Marshall, who's an award winner, has designed the facilities. We want all our centres to feel special, safe and supported by the people who are using them.
"The charity's been going over 25 years offering a range of psychological, emotional and practical help."
