A man has been charged with sexual assault and voyeurism offences.

On Friday, May 2, Northamptonshire Police attended Northampton’s Drapery in response to a town centre CCTV operator reporting seeing a person appearing to upskirt women and girls.

Jonathan Bearcroft, aged 42, of Sheep Street, Northampton, has been charged with one count of sexual assault on a female, one count of recording an image under clothing to observe another without consent, both on May 2, and one count of operating equipment beneath the clothing of another without consent on April 28.

The law on upskirting - taking a photo underneath their clothing without their consent came into force in April 2019.

He appeared before Northampton Magistrates’ Court on May 3, and was remanded in custody.

Bearcroft is due to appear at Northampton Crown Court on Monday, June 9, for a plea and trial preparation hearing.

The Northamptonshire force say any form of sexual violence, abuse or harassment is unacceptable and they take reports of this nature very seriously.
