After apologising on behalf of the council to victims of domestic violence, West Northamptonshire’s acting leader wants to meet with related charities to find a way forward.

Councillor Adam Brown says he wants to discuss how relationships can be repaired following a joint letter received from different organisations.

The five charities expressed their upset in the open letter, over the way the authority handled allegations surrounding former leader Jonathan Nunn, which he denies.

Taking on the role following Mr Nunn's resignation, Councillor Brown’s talked of his condemning of domestic violence and abuse.

He has vowed to ensure the local authority treats victims with “compassion and support that they need”.

Mr Brown says he’d like to place on record his wholehearted support for the valuable work charities do and would like the opportunity to " continue their vital partnership.”
