Northamptonshire fire service attend 'large fire' in Sheep Street

They're asking residents to keep their windows and doors shut

Northamptonshire fire service are dealing with what they say is a 'large fire' in Sheep Street, Northampton. It's after they were called just after 5.50am this morning (Sunday 30th March).

The fire service say they're using nine pumps, two aerial appliances and a water bowser at the scene.

They're urging anyone in the area to keep their windows and doors closed due to the smoke.

There are road closures in place between Church Lane and Lady's Lane; in the Regent Square area; in Broad Street to the junction with Lady's Lane; and in Greyfriars to the junction with Wellington Street.

A Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: "We’re currently dealing with a large fire in Sheep Street, Northampton, with the road closed between Church Lane and Lady's Lane.

"Please avoid the area and if you live nearby, keep your windows and doors closed as there is a large smoke plume."

Northamptonshire Police are supporting the fire service and urging people to avoid the area and find alternative routes.
