Labour Party Deputy Campaign Coordinator Ellie Reeves has been speaking in Market Square in Wellingborough. She joined new MP for the Northamptonshire town Gen Kitchen.

Both thanked voters in the by-election which saw Labour overturn an over 18,000 majority from the Tories with the swing of 28.5%.

That's the second largest ever from the Conservatives.

Leader Keir Starmer says the results are 'fantastic' and show "people want change and are ready to put their faith in a changed Labour Party to deliver it."

Ellie Reeves has this message:

Gen Kitchen won for Labour with an over 6500 majority, with 13,844 votes, followed by Helen Harrison for the Conservatives on 7,408 and Ben Habib for Reform UK coming third with 3,919 votes.

The election turn out was 38.1% which is equivalent to 30,231 people.

Gen tells us she won't be complacent:

Meanwhile Rishi Sunak has insisted the circumstances surrounding the Wellingborough, and the Kingswood by-election which also went Labour's way, were "particularly challenging."

The Prime Minister said there is "not a huge amount of enthusiasm" for Labour. Hear all the latest news from across the UK on the hour, every hour, on Greatest Hits Radio on DAB, smartspeaker, at greatesthitsradio.co.uk, and on the Rayo app.
