The 2024 Winter Sleep Out takes place today (Friday January 19th) at Wicksteed Park.

Organised by locally based charity, Accommodation Concern, it's part of a range of work they undertake to tackle the issues surrounding poverty and homelessness in the community.

Operations Manager John Parry told us:

"Our aim set was to have 100 or so people joining us to brave the elements, each raising £100 to participate. Thereby generating £10,000 which will support the work we do to prevent people becoming homeless or falling into poverty.

"Money will go to help residents get help as they need it for housing, debt and benefit matters. It will help our supported accommodation service which provides safe and secure housing with additional assistance for those who unfortunately end up without a roof over their head.

"Though a night out in the chilly temperatures might not be everyone's cup of tea, there are also spaces reserved for those who would prefer to be indoors on the floor of the pavilion at Wicksteed Park's Conference Centre.

"It runs from 8pm to 7am with entertainment laid on, which also involves a quiz. People will also have a chance to find out more about what we do."
