Northamptonshire Police are telling us the importance of dashcams in picking up road offences.

Through Operation Snap members of the public can submit evidence caught by camera's in our own vehicles.

It's an online form on the Northamptonshire Police website, if members of the public spot illegal behaviour on the roads. That could be driving offences like someone not wearing a seatbelt or using their mobile phone behind the wheel.

Officers say the usefulness of dashcam footage when it comes to cracking crime across Northamptonshire. That's because footage picked up is often unobtainable by police officers, as drivers adjust their behaviour on the road when they see marked police cars.

That's according to PC Ryan Warren, a training officer with the Northants force:

"People change their manor of driving when they see a marked police car, so this is encouraging members of the public to submit the footage they see and avoid road rage incidents, and we will take action based on the footage you provide us."

In many crime incidents Northamptonshire Police and forces around the country will ask the public for any footage they have of an incident.
