Two pedestrians have been taken to hospital following a collision in Northampton town centre yesterday afternoon (October 18).

The man and woman, both aged in their 20s, were walking in Swan Street just after 3.30pm when a black Seat Leon was in collision with them, coming to a stop in St John’s Car Park.

Both pedestrians were taken to University Hospitals Coventry and Warkwickshire by air ambulance where they are being treated for serious injuries.

An assessment of the structure of the car park has now been completed and motorists are able to retrieve their cars from the car park.

A 23-year-old man from Northampton has been arrested in connection with the incident and remains in police custody.

Police were in attendance at the time of the collision and so a standard referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit would like to hear from anyone who may have dash-cam footage that captured any part of the collision.
