1\3 tonnes of food has been saved from Silverstone.

A week on from the British Grand Prix we've been speaking to Towcester Community Food larder, who take away waste food from the circuit to be distributed to the community.

They redistributed leftover food from the event and have done for the past 4 years.

We spoke to Katie Steele the Operations Manager at the larder.

She tells us how much food was saved this year:

"It's grown from me and 4 volunteers filling up the back of my car. And now we have a team of 20 and 5 vans that two 2 or 3 trips. "

After the goods were distributed at Towcester and Roade this week Katie thinks they've helped 1500 people, and 500 families with food that would have other wise been wasted.

Katie says chefs are becoming more and more aware of food waste.

As well as the British Grand Prix, they also take any unused food from the Moto GP and Silverstone Festival.

She says she couldn't do it without the help of her volunteers and the Sustainability and Catering teams at Silverstone. Katie says they work endlessly to make sure there's no waste from trying to feed 400,000 attendees to the British Grand Prix.
