Former Northamptonshire Special Constable would have been dismissed over assault conviction
Gross misconduct hearing finds conduct breached professional standards
A former Northamptonshire Special Constable would have been dismissed after a hearing found his behaviour amounted to gross misconduct.
The disciplinary hearing took place on 12th December 2025 at Force Headquarters and was chaired by Chief Constable Ivan Balhatchet. It focused on Former Special Constable S3130 Daryl Day’s conviction for assault by beating earlier in the year.
Daryl Day was convicted at Leicester Magistrates Court on 20th May 2025 following a trial, and later sentenced on 10th June.
His sentence included a community order with a rehabilitation activity requirement and a mandate to complete 300 hours of unpaid work within 12 months. He was also ordered to pay £650 in costs and a £114 victim surcharge.
The misconduct hearing found that Mr Day had breached professional behaviour standards related to Discreditable Conduct. Having resigned from Northamptonshire Police on 24th October 2025, Mr Day did not attend the hearing, although he had admitted the allegation in writing prior to the proceedings.
The Chief Constable determined that the gross misconduct finding warranted dismissal from the force. According to his statement, "Men who are violent towards women have no place in policing and no place in the organisation that I serve. They should always face the full extent of the law."
As a result, Former Special Constable Day has been placed on the Barred List, preventing him from holding future police roles.
Northamptonshire Police reiterated its commitment to maintaining high behavioural standards across the force and encouraged the public to report concerns over misconduct via their official channels.
