Food charity in Northamptonshire preparing for Christmas
Towcester Community Larder say they hope to save around 8 tonnes of food over the festive period.
A Northamptonshire food larder have been telling us more about how they work during Christmas.
It's as this year they've ran a festive appeal to help reduce waste and provide for those who most need their help.
Here's Katie Steele, who is Operations Manager at Towcester Community Larder and says they saved 8 tonnes of food over 9 days in the festive period last year.
"There is a massive increase and we do expect it to be similar again this year."
She's urging people in need to check their Facebook page for last minute pop-ups, as they normally do one on Christmas Eve to make sure the surplus food gets out to people rather than getting wasted.
She says they're also part of the Food For Heroes programme and will be delivering Christmas dinners tomorrow (23rd) to be heated and enjoyed on Christmas Day and says this year they have over 350 ordered this year.
Katie also says all the volunteers try to have fun too:
"There is a Christmas Larder song on our website, where you can see volunteers being Christmas spirited!"
The team at Towcester Community Larder also try to help other charities as well:
"We have a weekly raffle too at the Larder sessions, with all funds going to Towcester Toy Bank, who provide toys to referred families over the Christmas period."
