Northamptonshire Fire & Rescue have been tackling a huge blaze at a business unit on St Andrew's Road in Northampton, which they say is now under control.

The fire began at 8:30pm on Tuesday 20th August.

The road was closed at the junction with Norfolk Terrace.

On arrival crews found a temporary scaffolding structure, which was storing items such as ladders and plastic, was alight.

They were assisted by police and used water jets to get the blaze under control which also destroyed a shipping container and shed.

Due to smoke Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue advised locals keep windows and doors closed.

Crew returned this morning Wednesday 21st August at 7am to check that temperatures remained safe, and the Fire Service will return later today to carry out an investigation to determine a cause.

Fire crews thanked the public for their patience while they attended to the incident.
