'Danger to life' warning still in force in Northampton after Storm Bert
More than 1,000 people have been evacuated from Billing Aquadrome after the River Nene burst its banks
A 'danger to life' warning remains in force in Northampton on Tuesday, as the clean up continues following Storm Bert.
The Environment Agency's most severe flood warning covers the Billing Aquadrome holiday park along the River Nene, alongside nearby business parks.
It says "deep and fast flowing water" at the park continues to be "extremely hazardous."
More than 1,000 people have been evacuated in the fourth evacuation from the site in 12 months, although some remain cut off by floodwater.
Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service say 84 people are being supported at a resent centre set up at Lings Forum Leisure Centre.
Major incident still in force
A multi-agency response was launched on Monday morning, including emergency services, North Northamptonshire and West Northamptonshire Councils, the Environment Agency, and local NHS teams.
People in Corby and Kettering have been evacuated to emergency assistance centres, although the former has now been stood down.
A 'major incident' declared on Monday afternoon remains in force as emergency services continue to receive a high number of calls related to flooding and fallen trees.
600 calls about Storm Bert were made to Northamptonshire Police on Sunday, and 245 to Northamptonshire Fire & Rescue Service over the weekend.
Area Commander Neil Sadler said many of the calls his service took "range from stranded motor vehicles and people trapped in their vehicles, to flooded properties and flooding in the open."
He urged people to only call 999 in an emergency, and be careful if travelling.
"If you do have to make journeys, then don't enter flood water, whether that be by vehicle or by foot."
Major travel disruption is continuing on the railways on Tuesday, with Northampton station closed for a second day whilst engineers repair track and signals damaged by flood water.
Rivers will rise "a lot more quickly" with further rainfall
More rain is forecast across Northamptonshire overnight on Tuesday and into the rest of the week.
The county's Area Director at the Environment Agency, Leigh Edlin, told Greatest Hits Radio that whilst less rainfall is expected, further flooding is still a risk.
"That rain will be falling on saturated catchments, so when that rain falls, it will run straight off into the rivers, and you'll see rivers rise a lot more quickly."
