Two men jailed for raping a woman in Corby
The pair were sentenced at Northampton Crown Court following a trial.
Two men have been sentenced to prison following the rape of a woman at a property in Corby five years ago.
Michael Rooney, 23, and Jimmy Doran, 22, were convicted after a six-day trial at Northampton Crown Court that ended on 26th August this year.
On the night of 12th October 2020, the pair drove a woman to a house in Stanion Lane, where they pressured her into drinking alcohol before raping her.
The woman escaped and, despite having her phone taken away, managed to contact Northamptonshire Police and report what happened.
Officers launched an investigation and arrested both men, who were later charged with rape.
Rooney, of Broughton, Kettering, was sentenced to seven years and nine months in prison. Doran, of Kirton, Boston, was handed a six-year prison sentence. Both were sentenced at Northampton Crown Court last week.
Detective Sergeant Britt Bailey, who led the investigation, said: “No sentence can ever make up for the horrific experience the survivor in this case has been through, nor the very long time the case took to get to court, but I hope its conclusion allows her to move forward onto brighter things.
“She has shown exceptional bravery and an incredible amount of strength throughout our investigation, and I would like to thank her for helping us put two dangerous men behind bars.”
