A Corby mum whose baby died at 4 days old due to birth defects says a TV drama sharing her story has seen other parents come forward.

Netflix TV drama 'Toxic Town' has dramatized the families story about the case into the mishandling of toxic waste in the town in the 80s and 90s.

"If they were in their first three months of pregnancy at the time, they could have easily breathed in the same level of toxins."

Tracey Taylor says there are other mothers who could have been affected too:

"If they were in their first three months of pregnancy at the time, they could have easily breathed in the same level of toxins.

"They could have a child out there with a limb difference or a deformity.

"In fact, since we've set this up with Netflix it is truly heart breaking to see the numbers coming forward."

Tracey lost her daughter Shelby Anne, due to birth defeats from the toxic waste, after she worked next to the site six days a week during her pregnancy.

In 2009, Corby Borough Council was found negligent in its management of toxic waste at the former steelworks site and later agreed to pay compensation to the children affected.

Still questions to answer

Tracey agrees with solicitor Des Collins, who helped the women involved get justice, that there needs to be an enquiry into what happened:

"There wasn't social media or the wide world spread of news which we have today, at the time.

"Although it attracted attention from a few people in Corby who had seen it in the news or read about it in the paper, we weren't reaching people globally and nationally."

She goes on to say that there are still questions to answer.

Tracey is looking into links with cancer and also how no one knows about the toxic levels in a recent 2023 report:

"I think nearest contamination land that was on that report is at Irchester. My worry is that does anybody know or is there a record of where contaminated cells are?"

We've approached North Northamptonshire Council for comment.
