A 44-year-old man has been sentenced to 13 years in prison after sexually abusing a girl from the age of 12 over the course of two years in Corby.

Nicholas Ford, formerly of Clifton Square, began abusing the child when she was 12. The abuse included three instances of rape and multiple sexual assaults.

When the victim turned 18, she disclosed the abuse to her partner and, with their support, reported it to Northamptonshire Police.

Ford was arrested and interviewed by police. He denied all allegations but was later charged with three counts of rape and six counts of sexual assault.

The case went to trial at Northampton Crown Court and concluded on 7 March. After just over three hours of deliberation, the jury returned guilty verdicts on all nine counts.

He was sentenced at the same court on Tuesday 6 May.

Detective Constable Ivan Bentley, the lead investigator, said: “Although no sentence can erase what happened to the victim in this case, I am pleased to see her abuser sent to prison for a significant period of time.

“Nicholas Ford is a dangerous predator and because of this woman’s bravery, he is now behind bars and unable to hurt anyone else. She should be very proud of the courage she has shown — it is truly commendable.

“I hope this case demonstrates how seriously Northamptonshire Police take child sex offences and that it doesn’t matter when the abuse happened, we will do our utmost to bring the offender to justice and to provide the victim with the care and support they deserve.”

Northamptonshire Police have urged any victims of sexual abuse, whether recent or non-recent, to come forward. Reports can be made by calling 101 or online at www.northants.police.uk.
