A charity football match for a Northampton man who died from sepsis is taking place tomorrow (Saturday 28th June).

The fundraising charity football match will take place in honour of Luke Abrahams who died from flesh eating disease necrotising fasciitis and sepsis in January 2023.

Luke was just 20 years old after complaining of flu like symptoms. His leg was amputated in an effort to save his life once sepsis was diagnosed.

The third annual Luke Abrahams Memorial Trophy taking place at Roade Football Club.

Teams involved are The Clarets, The Hawks, AFC Spinney set up by Luke and the Luke’s XI Blues with raffle prizes raising money for two charities.

Charities being supported are the 'The Lee Spark NF Foundation' and 'The UK Sepsis Trust' and is organised by his brother Jake and friend Cal Harris.

Dad Richard says in the last three years the match has grown:

"It was a comfort and laugh for the first start, it's becoming more of a proper football competition now."

Northampton Town FC and Luke's favourite team West Ham have supported the family and the event with raffle prizes along with local businesses.

Dad Richard says they wanted to do something to honour Luke's legacy:

"The two charities that will be up there are the Lee Spark foundation and Sepsis (UK Trust) , both of which Luke passed away from and I'll say it again, which he shouldn't have passed away from if they've done their job properly."

The family understand a long called for inquest into Luke's death is set to finally begin next week. They have been told a preliminary inquest hearing is to take place on 4th July.

At the time of his death an investigation found the crew from the East Midlands Ambulance Service Trust failed to follow guidelines and policies.
