A 69-year-old man has been sentenced to 16 years in prison after he was found guilty of multiple child sex offences in Northampton.

David John Labrum, who previously lived in Tyringham Close, Northampton, was convicted on two counts of rape, one count of indecently assaulting a 14-year-old girl, and one count of inciting a girl under 14 to commit an act of gross indecency.

Labrum was in his 30s when these offences took place. Both victims lived with the impact of these crimes for decades before coming forward to Northamptonshire Police several years ago.

Labrum was arrested, charged, and chose to face a trial at Northampton Crown Court which began on 3rd November. After seven hours of deliberation, the jury returned majority guilty verdicts on 12th November.

He returned to court on 14th November, where he was sentenced to 16 years behind bars.

Detective Sergeant Ryan Tilly, the lead investigator in the case, praised the bravery of the victims in coming forward after nearly 30 years.
