It is hoped the Lionesses' win at the Euros will encourage even more girls in the North East to take up the sport.

Stephen Rutherford is the Hebburn Town Football Club Chief Executive and says the England Women's team is a huge inspiration.

He said: "It will just further inspire young females to get involved.

"We're hoping to see another ten female teams come on board in the next two years with our club.

"Women's sport is huge. It's the fastest growing sport in the world and it's great for people to understand and recognise that.

"I think for us as a football club, it's great to have the facilities to inspire but also attract young females to get involved, keep fit and enjoy themselves.

"You look at a couple of years ago, the likes of Chloe Kelly, Lucy Bronze, I wouldn't say they were household names, but now they are and it's fantastic to see young children - both male and female - wearing England tops with their names on the back."
