A woman has been raped in Whitley Bay.
Police say the woman was attacked in the Cambridge Avuenue and Oxford Street area in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The man is described as being in his 30s, stocky build, over 6ft tall, bald head with a little bit of hair and dark eyes. He is believed to have been wearing a grey-white shirt. Supt Richie Jackson said: "We are currently investigating this incident and providing the victim with specialist support. We appeal for anyone who may have been in the area at the time or has any information to contact police. "We do have extra officers on patrol in the area carrying out enquiries and providing reassurance."
