Whitley Bay nursery opposes plans for pub next door
Children's Choice Day Centre have started a petition against plans for a new pub, with over 800 signatures so far.
A Whitley Bay nursery has started a petition against the opening of a pub next door.
Children's Choice Day Centre in Monkseaton has opposed plans submitted to the council for the opening of a new micropub in the unit next to theirs.
It's already gathered over 100 signatures from parents and residents alike.
Staff are concerned a pub and adjoining beer garden will encourage antisocial behaviour and vandalism.
There's also concerns about smoking and bad language in front of the children, who're under the age of five.
Michelle Kerr works at the centre and said: "The possible issues that we feel are the possible use of bad language being heard throughout the nursery.
"During the summer months the windows are going to be open and there could be loss of business for us too.
"There's going to be extra cars and there's already limited parking as it is.
"A pub opening up adjacent to a children's nursery? We just think it's highly inappropriate"
