Wallsend Death Update
Police are continuing to make enquiries into the death of Wallsend man, 39-year-old Anthony Hampton, from David Street. Mr Hampton was found outside his address in David Street, Wallsend at approximately 8pm on Monday, October 5. He was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary by ambulance but was confirmed dead at the hospital. Now detectives investigating the death want to speak to a man, a witness, who was in David Street on Monday, October 5 at approximately 6pm. He is described as an older man who parked a small white van in David Street and was asked to assist another man in the street. This van driver was helpful and came to the man's assistance. Officers are asking for this man to come forward as they believe he has information which would assist with their enquiries. Police would like to speak with this man, or anyone else who knows who he is to contact them. Detective Chief Inspector John Bent said:
"We have officers who are continuing to carry out house to house enquiries in the area and we are asking for anyone who was in David Street on Monday night between 5pm and 8pm and may have seen or heard anything unusual in this area to contact police." A 40-year-old man arrested in connection with the incident remains in custody. Officers are treating this as an isolated incident. It is believed that the victim and the arrested man are known to each other.
