One of the busiest sections of the Tyne and Wear Metro line is to close for 5 days from today.

It's so key infrastructure work can be carried out at a busy track junction in the Pelaw area.

It means there will be no services from Gateshead Stadium to South Shields, and from Sunderland to South Hylton.

Replacement bus services will be in operation.

Nexus, who run the Metro, say that while Metro trains are not running, they will also be improving drainage, working on cables, carrying out trackside management and track alignment work.

Train services

During the line closure trains will be running in the following locations but not to the usual timetable:

Gateshead Stadium - Airport

Airport - Gateshead Stadium

Gateshead Stadium - St James (via Whitley Bay)

St James - Gateshead Stadium (via Whitley Bay)

Train services between Gateshead Stadium and South Shields/South Hylton will resume on Saturday 2 November.

You can find out more information about the replacement bus services via the Nexus website.
