Tributes paid to Gateshead crash victims
Flowers have been left at the scene of a crash that killed three people in Gateshead.
Dozens of flowers have been left at the scene of a crash that killed a man and two teenage girls.
A car collided with a lorry in the early hours of Wednesday morning on Fellside Road in Gateshead.
The driver of the car was a 43-year-old man and the two passengers were girls, both aged 17, all from the Gateshead area.
Flowers, gifts and balloons have been left at the scene with messages left such as:
“Rest in peace. Thank you for everything you did! A true friend, we will miss you but always remember you.”
“Rest in peace girls, you’s will be missed. Shine bright, keep partying up there.”
“Gone too soon. Always in our hearts.”
Police are still investigating the collision and anyone with information should call 101.
Meanwhile, Gateshead Council could review the speed limit of Fellside Road following the incident.
In a statement, the council said:
“Fellside Road has seen a number of speed-related accidents over the years, but it is not yet known whether speed or some other factor was responsible for this accident. We understand that the precise cause of the accident is still being investigated by Northumbria Police and until they have completed those investigations it would be unhelpful to speculate or try to pre-empt their outcome. “However, once we know exactly how and why this accident occurred, we will look closely to see if there are any further engineering works that can be put in place to prevent a similar accident in the future. “Fellside Road has seen a number of speed-related accidents in the past including another fatal accident in 2011, and we have imposed a number of speed restrictions on the highway as a result. In fact, much of Fellside Road is subject to a 50mph limit which is actually lower than the national standard for roads of this type.”
