Police investigating the murder of Tipu Sultan in South Shields are going on the BBC 1 programme Crimewatch.

Tipu was shot dead at the back of the Herbs and Spice Kitchen takeaway in April.

Two men on a motorbike were seen driving into the rear lane in Lake Avenue just before the shooting, and were seen driving away immediately afterwards.

Officers believe these two men were responsible.

Tipu’s brother Mahsum Sultan will also be on tonight’s show: “He was an amazing person, you have that one person in your life where that person was always smiling never sad. He was that person.”

Detective Chief Inspector John Bent said: “To murder somebody in cold blood like that, particularly dangerous people and people we need to catch.”

A 35-year-old Newcastle man was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder and bailed.

Since the murder investigation was launched officers have been to over 1,000 homes and taken 225 statements.

The incident room has received in excess of 100 phonecalls, emails, web submissions and letters from members of the public passing on information. Any information can be passed to police, anonymously, on 101 or through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
