People in Newcastle are calling for action on ticket touts, as Ed Sheeran prices on secondary sites reach almost £600 per sale.

The singer’s world tour sold out in minutes one week ago, with thousands of tickets at inflated prices appearing almost immediately on secondary sites.

Nearly 38,000 people have signed a petition so far, calling on the reselling of concern tickets to be made illegal.

Ed himself has said he’s ‘deeply concerned’ over it, urging fans not to buy tickets at such massive prices.

Ed Sheeran Tickets

Ailsa Oliver, General Manager at Metro Radio Arena, said:

“The supply and demand. Ed Sheeran is phenomenal he can do stadiums, he can pick and choose where he goes. So I can understand people were frustrated that they weren’t able to get tickets and people were frustrated that they’ve obviously been bought by people with the intention of selling on.

“It goes against most venues and most ticket agencies terms and conditions but it’s not illegal. With demand being so high, it enables people to put their tickets up for sale and for people to purchase those tickets. As long as that clear and visible, then people have the choice to buy through those outlets.

“We have previously been involved in a campaign that was taken to national government to try to make sure that there was some governance over secondary points of sale so that there was legislation in place to protect consumers.”

Last year bands including One Direction, Little Mix and Arctic Monkeys joined a similar campaign, with hoped for the issue to be debated by MPs.
