Three men charged after window is shot at in Newcastle
Two loud bangs were heard on Colston Street in the Benwell area
Three men have been charged after reports of a window being shot at in Newcastle.
Earlier this week police revealed how 12 people had been arrested after a window of a property was shot at last Thursday (June3).
It followed a report of two loud bangs on Colston Street in the Benwell area of the city. Nobody was reported to have been injured.
Enquiries into the suspected shooting have continued this week and now Northumbria Police have revealed three men have been charged.
Two of the men appeared before magistrates’ sitting at Newcastle Crown Court on Wednesday where they were remanded into custody.
A third man, who was arrested on Tuesday, is due to appear before the same court today (Thursday).
Detective Chief Inspector Ed Small, of Northumbria Police, has reiterated that all those involved in the incident are believed to be known to each other.
He said:
“These charges are the result of a lot of hard work by our detectives and we hope it reassures our communities in Newcastle.
“We are satisfied that those involved are all known to each other and there is no wider threat to residents in Benwell.
“Any incident where a firearm has been discharged is dealt with extremely seriously and violence of this nature will not be tolerated.
“We will continue to have a highly visible presence in the community and would ask anyone with information about this incident to contact us immediately.”
Abdourahmane Sow, 18, of Ardgowan Road, London, and Mushafiqur Rahman, 26, of Lanercost Road, Fenham, have both been charged with conspiracy to possess a firearm with intent to endanger life.
Both men appeared before magistrates court on Wednesday and were remanded in custody to appear before Newcastle Crown Court on July 7.
Kesa Mohammed Malik, 26, of Wingrove Gardens, Newcastle, has also been charged with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and will appear in court today.
Ten other suspects arrested since the incident have been released under investigation.
