Teenager killed after car crashes into Newcastle bus stop named

Police have named a 19 year old, who died when a car crashed into a bus stop in Newcastle on Sunday afternoon.
Shortly after 4pm on Sunday, October 15th, police received a report of a one-vehicle collision on West Denton Way, in West Denton.
It was reported that a grey BMW car collided with a bus stop, at which a number of people were stood.
Emergency services attended the scene and despite the best efforts of paramedics a man – who can now be named as 19-year-old Joe Scott, of Blakelaw in Newcastle – was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.
His family are being supported by specialist Family Liaison Officers at this time.
Two women who were also stood at the bus stop and were injured in the collision were taken to hospital.
One sustained serious injuries and remains in hospital, while the other sustained non-serious injuries and has since been discharged.
A full investigation into the collision was immediately launched by officers and three men were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
One of those men – aged 21 – has now been released under investigation.
Two of the men – aged 24 and 21 – have been released and will face no further action.
Sergeant Craig Bartle, of Northumbria Police’s Motor Patrols department, said: “Our thoughts remain firmly with Joe’s loved ones at what must be an extremely difficult time for them.
“We will offer them all of the support they need as they come to terms with their loss and ask that their privacy is respected.”
Sgt Bartle added: “A full and thorough investigation into this tragic incident is ongoing.
“We continue to appeal for anyone with information, particularly those who were in the area and have dash cam footage in the moments leading up to the collision, to contact us.”
