A surge in North East micro-breweries is helping young people to get into work and set up their own businesses.

That's what we're hearing from the organiser of this years Durham Beer Festival which starts today.

Peter Lawson is also the Chairman of Durham Campaign for Real Ale.

He told us "We have an explosion of micro-brewers in this area at the moment. They all need a shop window, and they're obviously striving to get sales at all times. People from pubs will be coming, and those are free to choose the beers that they would like to have served in their pubs."

It's the 35th year the festival is being held in Durham and it's expected to attract thousands of people over four days.
