20 people now held on suspicion of criminal activity
Sunderland shooting and associated criminal activity - ongoing investigation Police are continuing to pursue those involved in an on-going dispute in Sunderland and associated criminal activity. Officers have continued to carry out their investigations throughout the weekend after a window was shot at on Monday (February 29) at an address in Edgmond Court in Hollycarrside. On Sunday, March 6 officers carried out search warrants at four houses, three in Newcastle and one in Sunderland and a number of mobile phones were seized by officers. Police also uplifted a vehicle as part of their enquiries. High profile policing patrols have also been carried out in a number of key areas as part of this enquiry and these will be ongoing to reassure the community. Acting Chief Inspector Steve Pescod said:
"This remains a very active enquiry into the incident in Hollycarrside and associated criminal activity. We want to make sure those involved are aware that we take this type of behaviour very seriously and we are committed to doing all we can to find those responsible. This level of police activity will be sustained as long as we need to. We want to reassure the community that we are taking necessary steps to tackle this issue effectively. If anyone has any concerns they should contact their local neighbourhood policing team by calling 101." The 28 year-old man who was arrested on Saturday, March 5, has been bailed pending further enquiries. During the enquiry so far 20 people have been arrested, of these, three people have been charged with offences.
