A Sunderland supporter is in a critical but stable condition after suffering a medical incident at last nights game (Tues 22nd Feb).
The match was suspended from the 5th minute when the referee was alerted to an incident in the stands.
Emergency services worked on the man for 40 minutes before he was transferred to hospital.
Sunderland manager Alex Neil spoke about the incident after the match.
Northumbria Police released a statement this morning:
“Police officers were in attendance at the Sunderland v Burton Albion match yesterday (Tuesday) when a man in the stands collapsed.
At around 7.50pm, paramedics attended the scene and the man was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition where he remains in a critical but stable condition.
Police have been stood down from this incident and we wish the man a full recovery in the hands of medical professionals.”
The result, not that it matters at a time like this, was 1 - 1.
The visitors to the Stadium of Light were Burton Albion, they took the lead but the Black Cats pegged them back late on. Ross Stewart grabbed an equalising goal in the 93rd minute.
