Council bosses: 'There's big plans for Sunderland over 2024'
It's hoped the next 12 months will see more investment into the region
Wearside council bosses are hoping 2024 will be a big year for Sunderland's regeneration projects.
It is hoped they can help the city thrive and bring in more investment to the North East.
Sunderland Council leader, Graeme Miller, said: "We'll continue to talk with the Government, get engaged with ministers and civil servants and explain to them that 'to be blunt, we need money for this, we can deliver all of that but you need to give us this.' That's been something that's worked very well for us and I'd like to think that our positive relationship with Government ministers continue.
"It's getting people to come into the city. I want more people here and enjoying what we've got and that's the key thing, making Sunderland people realise that Sunderland as a city is a good place to come to and a good place to be. I still want us to be the best medium-sized city in England.
"As a city over the last five years, we've started to develop and deliver some very good new, modern buildings that people like. We've got our blue flag beaches which are striking and our green flag parks."
