Middlesbrough has the second lowest Covid vaccination rate in the North East.
In the town, just 65% of people have received both vaccine doses, with Newcastle-upon-Tyne the only area where a lower proportion (64%) of people have been vaccinated.
South Tees’ public health intelligence specialist Alistair Stewart said that Newcastle was closing the gap on Middlesbrough.
The average vaccination rate for the second dose across England is 70%.
In Northumberland, 81% of people have received both doses and in North Tyneside, it is 78%.
In one area of Middlesbrough, fewer than half of people are vaccinated.
In Ayresome, just 44% of people have received the first dose of their Covid jab, while in Middlesbrough Central that figure is not much higher at 50%.
This is a stark difference to Marton West where 89% of people have received their first vaccine and Trimdon where 88% have had the first dose.
Vaccination buses are visiting areas where the vaccination rate remains low.
Trimdon has the highest proportion of 12-15 year olds who have received the first dose with 29%, whereas in Ayresome, North Ormesby and Brambles, and Thorntree it is just 5%.
Across Middlesbrough, 10% of 12-15 year olds have received their first dose of the vaccine.
However, some schools in Middlesbrough are still set to be visited by the vaccination programme and 12-15 year olds can now book their jab on the national booking site.
Public Health England data for booster jabs for Middlesbrough residents is not currently available, however, figures from the National Immunisation Management System can shed some light on rates.
Yet, they only reveal data from primary care networks, which is GP level, therefore, could include vaccination data from people who do not live in Middlesbrough but attend a surgery in the town.
Currently, there are 29,621 people who are eligible for the booster vaccine and 20,248 people have received it which equates to 68.4%.
The number of people eligible for a booster jab will continue to increase in size as more people reach the six-month mark after their second vaccine.
