There's fears children could be suffering in silence

An Ofsted report says Sunderland City Council are failing to protect the most vulnerable children and are leaving them in unsafe situations.

Inspectors say services for child protection, adoption and children in care, alongside all other areas of child protection, are inadequate.

During the inspection period, 1 in 10 of all the cases looked at by inspectors were referred back to the authority to request immediate action to be taken.

They say they're failing to protect the most vulnerable children and young people due to systemic and widespread weaknesses.
