Sexual Assaults in Newcastle
Police are appealing for information after two sexual assaults in Newcastle.
At 8.38pm on Wednesday, August 19, a 14-year-old girl was walking in Dovercourt Road with friends when she was approached by a man who touched her inappropriately over her clothing. The man then ran off towards Exeter Street and the victim contacted the police.
At 9.20pm a report came into police that a man had touched a 16-year-old girl on her bottom in Monkchester Road. The girl pushed the man away and he fled the scene.
The description of the offender from both incidents is similar - a tanned male, aged 20 to 30, wearing a Dark Hooded top, shorts, white sports socks and trainers.
Enquiries are ongoing into the two incidents and police are appealing for information.
Newcastle Neighbourhood Inspector Neil Brotherton said:
"These two incidents have happened in areas that are fairly close and with the descriptions being so similar we believe that it could be the same man responsible for both incidents.
He has approached two girls and touched them inappropriately, leaving them extremely upset and distressed. It's important that we find out who is responsible so we can make an arrest and carry out enquiries.
If anyone thinks they know who is responsible, or has any information that could help with enquiries I'd ask them to come forward and speak to police as soon as possible."
Extra officers are in the areas around where the offences took place carrying out enquiries and speaking local residents.
Anyone with any information into the incidents is asked to speak to officers face to face or contact police on 101 ext 69191 quoting reference number 1126 19/08/15.
Information can also be passed anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
