‘Selling Cosmetic Deals Online Should Be Banned

Published 6th Oct 2015

In the week we're hearing about cosmetic disasters - there's calls for online deals offering cheap treatments to be banned.

Every morning most of us will see new offers from a load of sites in your emails – semi permanent makeup, teeth whitening, botox.

Most people say it’s a great way to grab a bargain on what would usually be a really expensive treatment.

However, it’s claimed some selling sites aren’t too concerned about checking credentials of the people you’re buying it from.

Emma Holmes from Medicare Cosmetics in Redcar told us she has concerns about whether these treatments are any good or the professionals performing them have the correct qualifications.

It’s after she was approached by a company earlier this year.

“They didn’t ask for my credentials, they didn’t ask to see my work… So my questions to him were you’ve approached me and you were willing to sell my services but you’ve never looked at my work you don’t know if I’m going to actually do any harm to anyone. They just weren’t interested.”

Collabro’s Jamie Lambert, 26, from Washington had a nightmare experience when he bought an online voucher to get his teeth whitened last year. He said:

“I walked into this office which was clearly hired for the day. It was like this really backwater place, it didn’t look like a surgery at all. I lay down… and she bleached my gum. My lip was burned so I had a big blister on my lip and a white gum for three weeks.”
