The area is trialling changes which will see the learner having to follow the sat nav, and reversing out of a parking bay.
Things like reversing round a corner and three point turns are being replaced.
The trial is expected to run all of this year. Ged Kirby is a driving instructor in Sunderland, he said: “They’re going to have to listen to instructions, possibly watch the screen every now and again.
- “It should reduce accidents people have when they get in the car after passing their tests, and all of a sudden they’ve got their friends in the back shouting.”*
