Sat Nav systems are being used in driving tests in Sunderland.

The area is trialling changes which will see the learner having to follow the sat nav, and reversing out of a parking bay.

Things like reversing round a corner and three point turns are being replaced.

The trial is expected to run all of this year. Ged Kirby is a driving instructor in Sunderland, he said: “They’re going to have to listen to instructions, possibly watch the screen every now and again.

  • “It should reduce accidents people have when they get in the car after passing their tests, and all of a sudden they’ve got their friends in the back shouting.”*
